A Strong Reputation in Salt Lake City

Skyhouse is a perfectly-located downtown apartment building that has quickly established a reputation for style and elegance. Its dark gray brick facade makes a statement along North Temple Street, a main thoroughfare in Downtown Salt Lake City.

The crown jewel of the property is its rooftop. Loft Six Four designed a simple, but exciting rooftop that spans the entire length of the building. The iconic space provides striking views of the State Capitol, downtown high rises, Temple Square, the Hardware District, and both the Wasatch and Oquirrh mountain ranges. The rooftop is a key differentiator, taking advantage of the project’s unique opportunities to make it a clear standout.

As another example of luxurious multifamily projects thriving on the west side, Skyhouse leverages its rooftop to attract and retain tenants. The rooftop is most frequently used by residents as a popular evening hangout.

High-Value Amenities, On Budget

With the runaway success of neighboring 4th West Apartments in mind, the developer knew Skyhouse needed exciting amenities in order to make an impact. But, under the pressure of rising construction costs, the rooftop was almost abandoned altogether.

However, developers knew the rooftop was too good of an opportunity to pass up. A cost-effective solution was paramount. We coordinated with the architect and other consultants to provide an affordable solution for the 9,000 square foot rooftop space. Drawing from our experience designing rooftop amenities throughout Salt Lake City, the Loft Six Four team strategically dialed back the design while keeping the most important elements in place.

Designed for Evening Hangouts

The Skyhouse rooftop features a dozen distinct gathering areas for socializing, complete with grilling stations, fire pits, and lounge furniture. String lights crisscross the entire length of the space, providing a unique ambiance at night and human-scale during the day.

Wood screen fencing shields the amenities from utilities and gives structure to the space. Small trees in raised metal planters create rhythm and frame city views. The fencing, lighting, and trees can all be seen from the street below, inviting curiosity and making the rooftop a main feature of the building.
